Course Description

Week 1: This introductory class will take place in a group format. Andrés will guide the group through games and theatre exercises to help him get a sense of you as a performer in a low-stakes, playful environment.

Week 2: Script Analysis. Working one-on-one with each participant, Andrés will assign you two short, contrasting monologues and guide you through the script analysis process: Breaking up the piece into different thoughts and tracking each character's journey through the piece. What is going on underneath the words? How is my character different at the end of the monologue versus the beginning?

Week 3: Character Work one-on-one. Andrés will help bring the previous week's work to life by exploring the given circumstances of each piece and crafting characters that are fully realized and physically unique.

Week 4: Personalizing the work and preparing for the audition. In the final one-on-one session with Andrés, you will deepen the work you've already done by doing what all great actors do: making the words personal to you. This session will also focus on proper audition etiquette. How do you work with nerves? How can you make the best possible impression? How do you stand out from the crowd while staying true to you?

Week 5: Mock-Audition. Andrés will play the role of casting director, leading the whole group through a simulated audition environment. This final presentation is meant to celebrate the work of each participant while preparing them to ace their next audition.
